Publicize your website
Tell your story and make new friends
December 2010
Killing time = lettering the bus.
This was a fun project- creating a simple logo that was worthy of a national campaign while generating credibility and increasing the visibility of our website. The day I installed the lettering, no less than a half dozen folks stopped by to chat, and 2 of them commissioned me to letter their idea on their coach. (sign marketers take note of this advertising concept: letter vehicles in public places).
Beginning that day, the number of visitors to our website and blog increased exponentially. We started getting suggestions for travel stops after people drove by and took note of the web address. Repeatedly, we are approached by folks that say "I saw the bus and checked out the website and (insert question about our trip here)?".
In this remarkable age of instant information gratification, with facebook on your phone & in your pocket, web access on most phones, we are no longer impressed by the number of people we meet
as we travel.
Thanks to the bus lettering, we're getting suggestions in every city, adding friends to the Facebook page every day and making valuable connections that would go by the wayside if it weren't for the invitation on side of the bus.
If you're traveling, and are interested in meeting the locals, consider publicizing your website or blog address by lettering it on your vehicle. Make it obvious! Cheap lettering will not be attractive (a la hardware store peel-n-stick letters). Spend a few bucks and get something classy, or funny, or wild- but professionally done- so others will know that you're serious about this traveling thing- and will check out your story. The dividends? Increased AdSense visits and clicks, reader strength and passive support of your diatribes by way of visits to the site or social network pages, and most importantly: the opportunity to meet folks on the road that are near you, or have experienced what you have and want to talk about it.
If I can help with a design, or materials- please call. I have provided lettering for customer installation with good results after discussing measurements and conveying the customers idea. OR, visit a local shop- and LOOK at their portfolio to see if it's the kind of work you'd be proud to have adorn your home along the highways, byways and backwoods campgrounds.
