Trip Notes - Cracker Barrel
They want you to stay with them!
November 2010
I have just described Cracker Barrel.
The parking is designed for buses and large RV's, usually there's a sign directing you to the large vehicle parking. The free WiFi comes from any of the adjacent hotels that generally surround a Cracker Barrel. Look beyond the front line items- just this week we found a wall of discounted holiday merchandise- at 70% off.
If you travel, add it to your list of preferred locations. Generally these restaurants are just as described, and they publish a national map for your traveling convenience.
Remember to use your best manners, park out of the way, don't set up your BBQ or stay all day. Better yet, ask if they mind if you stay, after you have dinner. Or, like we end up-rolling in around closing time and taking our choice of spots.
This week, we took them up on their offer to purchase an audio book, then return it when we were done- and they refunded the whole price except for $3.49 for a week's rental (and it's $3.49 per additional week). It's a good deal. I've heard that you can burn a CD to an iPod for easier personal use, but I don't have first hand experience. I'll admit that I was driving about 5 MPH slower on the way to Tucson, so we could hear more of the story we had rented.
Thanks Cracker Barrel, we'll see you for dinner sometime- but sooner than that, we'll be parked out back minding our own business.
